We follow 2 timelines, one tells the story of how Vito Corleone became a mafia man, the second picks up where the Godfather left off. Vito's mother and father are killed when he was a child in Italy. He escapes and moves to New York. Meanwhile, an attempt is made to kill Micheal. It fails. While Micheal tries to figure out who did it, he ponders making a deal with one of Vito's old buddies. Meanwhile, young Vito joins up with a guy who robs a rich person's house. A local thug tells them he wants some of the money they rob. Meanwhile, Micheal discovers that his brother betrayed him and that Vito's old buddy was behind it. Meanwhile, Vito kills the local thug and becomes the new local thug. Meanwhile, the head of one of the other families who opposes Micheal agrees to testify for the government against him. Meanwhile, Vito kills the man in Italy who killed his parents. Micheal kills his brother, convinces the government informant to kill himself, and kills Vito's old buddy.
